  1. Trinity is the birthplace of Duke University
    The town’s educational roots go way back: it all began with Brown’s Schoolhouse in 1838. Over time this evolved into Union Institute Academy (1841), then Normal College (1851), then Trinity College in 1859. In 1892, Trinity College moved to Durham, and later became what we now know as Duke University.

  2. Town incorporation history
    Trinity was first incorporated by the NC General Assembly in 1869, with its boundaries defined in relation to the main college building. That original charter was rescinded in 1924. Then in 1997, it reincorporated, restoring its municipal status.

  3. Population & Geography

      • As of the 2020 census, Trinity has a population of about 7,006 people.

      • The city covers roughly 17.05 square miles (≈ 44.17 km²), with about 0.17 square miles being water.
